What do you think of Bruce's take on how videos will influence rankings?

bruce makes some good points about the future of google and for people in the seo industry... will it happen this quickly? i'm not sure it will, but there will come a transition in what our roles and goals will be soon

not just video... engagement, social cues... i agree inbound links will be less important. i feel sorry for the lab rats who are chasing seo rankings, a never ending battle of changing rules. i'm glad i abadnoned the SEO race and stuck with ppc, at least its an honest business.

Interesting comments but I don't agree with all the content. Geo targetting by IP address, is not a very effective way of delivering local search. Have you checked out where Google thinks your IP is - ours is 300 miles away!
ISPs are not an indicator of location.

Regarding the number of variables in the algo - just because google has increased the number to take account of personalisation factors doesn't mean that it assigns any less weight to the link factor - a small percentage of people that use google desktop will see a few different sites in the listings.Does Bruce Clay really beleive that any organisation uses live data for testing? Tweaking knobs on a box is not the reality of it!

i couldn't agree with it more. Branding and communication builds a business online not rankings.
